Paperbacks!

I know, I know. I’ve been talking about Draykon paperbacks for ages and it’s taken me forever to actually get them done.

There are good reasons for this, I promise. See, I didn’t want just any paperbacks; I wanted glorious, delicious, juicy-sweet paperbacks with gorgeous front-back-spine covers (check), a beautiful map (check), a glossary of terms (check) and a nicely formatted interior which took a while to learn how to do (check).

Anyway they’re finally here and when I hold my copies in my hands I think it was absolutely worth the wait and the effort. I hope you will too.

Have a picture!

They are currently available directly from the CreateSpace website (click for Draykon, Lokant and Orlind) or from various Amazon stores. I have opted for expanded distribution which (they tell me) means the books will be available from other stores – like Barnes and Noble and, potentially, plenty of non-US online retailers – as well as being orderable from physical bookstores (I hope? It’s hard to verify that at the moment) and libraries. However, it’ll take 6-8 weeks for the books to filter out to all these other places. So if you’re looking for them outside the US or Amazon-store countries, I do apologise for the delay, but I hope you’ll be able to get them in due course.

    Dear Charlotte

Many congratulations on this fantastic achievement. Fingers crossed that they get the following they deserve.
    Best wishes

Hey, nice. I had been wondering about Amazon’s CreateSpace option. How easy has it been to work with?

    • Charlotte

Mark, I think that depends a bit on what you’d want to do. I did it the hard way – learned to format my own books etc, which was time-consuming but ultimately feasible. They offer some reasonably-priced services to have that stuff done for you, though, if you’d prefer to throw money at it.

The combined process of publishing, start to finish, is pretty straightforward – it’s neatly divided up into chunks of related tasks to do and I found that it led me through the process without too much undue confusion. All in all pretty good. The only downside is that they aren’t all that transparent about some things (for example I’m still somewhat in the dark about which stores my books will appear in in the long-term).

Can’t see them on Amazon or find them on createspace. Can I have a link?

    Congratulation Charlotte.

Oh, I’ve just noticed your post. They look fantastic! Congratulations!

  • http://riteshkala.wordpress.com Ritesh Kala

I really can’t believe how beautiful these look!

    • Charlotte

Thanks, Ritesh! They are very, very shiny indeed. I can’t wait for the next one to be done (coming up…).

      • http://riteshkala.wordpress.com Ritesh Kala

Ooh. Which is the next book coming up? I need details!

        • Charlotte

Black Mercury (previously titled Autogyro) is the next one. Hopefully it will be published as an ebook sometime in the next couple of months, and as a paperback as soon as possible afterwards. The cover art is looking good so far!

          • http://riteshkala.wordpress.com Ritesh Kala

When are you doing a cover reveal? I love shiny covers!

          • Charlotte

As soon as I can! Elsa is doing the covers for all four books in the series, so I imagine we’ll wait until they are all done before we start doing cover reveals. So far they are all sketched (and looking great) and Elsa is hard at work finishing them up.

  • http://riteshkala.wordpress.com Ritesh Kala

Ok, we need to get the blog started again, just to be a part of the cover reveal! If the Draykon series covers were anything to go by, these new ones will be amazing!

    • Charlotte

Yes indeed – Elsa’s work is always wonderful and, based on the sketches, I am really excited about these (especially mine. Hehe).

      • http://riteshkala.wordpress.com Ritesh Kala

This means I have 3 books to add to my TBR pile, and one book to reread!

        • Charlotte

Hehe – yes, great. I’ll be sending a copy of the final ebook to all beta readers, of course.
